See the BEAUTY in What you love and let it be what you DO.
Highlighted by ZUMBA Fitness CEO Alberto Perlman, at the 2013 Zumba Instructor Conference, Josette has since been hailed as THE Zumba instructor to watch (and listen to).
To understand Josette’s philosophies for instructing, one must FIRST look at her lifelong extensive background learning, absorbing and studying with the best of the best in Dance and theatrical Arts as well as her keen business background and education. Josette not only studied and performed with the heralded Joffrey Ballet of New York, the acclaimed Juilliard School, Alvin Ailey amongst others (see bio). Josette has also had the honor and privilege of receiving the mentorship and working along side Oscar Winner Maximilian Schell, who often noted that Josette reminded him of his great friend (and of whom he produced a documentary about); Marlene Dietrich. Josette learned the intricacies of cultivating art in any genre thru her rich life experiences and exposure to the arts at a young age
Interestingly, Josette spent part of her childhood in her Mother’s homeland, Haiti. It was there that Josette saw first hand extreme poverty and suffering, yet she noted that when music played, the lovely people of Haiti seemed to forget their cares and suffering. Josette was imprinted with the intense conviction that Love, Music, rythym and in fact humankind had no boundaries and that joy could be found in the least likely places. Josette absorbed the sounds and moves of the Country and carries with her to this date a love and passion for the Haitian people. She started a foundation with her mother to build schools in Port Au Prince, Haiti in 2003.
Josette also attended Law School, and has a keen business sense. CEO Alberto Perlman states “Josette has some incredible marketing tactics that she has used…check her OUT!”
Josette has set out a clear message that great instructors are those that teach from their soul. Successful instructors are more interested in their students than they are of themselves. Josette lovingly sends the message to all instructors that there is no such thing as competition, even in a saturated market. Being true to one’s light, one’s authenticity, having a passion for what they do and a desire to share that joy are key elements in a great instructor.
